The Pulping Process for OCC
The process consists of a pretreatment and a delignification of old corrugated container (OCC) material using alkali-oxygen treatment and peroxide bleaching. The delignification to fibrous materials using alkali-oxygen take place in a pressurized continous reactor termed the Turbo Pulper.
Low consistencies are used - 6 - 7%.
Alkali can be sodium carbonate with sodium hydroxide used to increase alkalinity as needed for various materials.
High bulk materials can be handled.
Mechanical action and mixing of the oxygen gas is achieved through the high turbulence generated by the Turbo-Pulper.
Unbleached pulp has good brightness and can be readily bleached to high brightness levels by chlorine free (TCF) bleach sequences.
Yields are 70-80% including trash removal and cleaning.
